L'Oreal Completes Purchase Of IT Cosmetics

L'Oreal said it has completed its purchase of IT Cosmetics. Established in 2008 by Jamie Kern Lima and Paulo Lima, in partnership with leading plastic surgeons, the company seeks to give women with skincare and makeup products designed to solve skincare-related problems. IT Cosmetics currently has a lineup of more than 300 high-performance beauty products focused on color cosmetics skincare, brushes, and tools. It will join L'Oreal's Luxe Division.

Unilever Commits To Equal Pay In White House Pledge

Unilever US announced has signed President Obama’s Equal Pay Pledge, which is a commitment to, among other actions, conducting an annual company-wide gender pay analysis. The company noted that its Sustainable Living Plan, a strategy for sustainable growth, it had adopted a framework for fair compensation across the organization. The company noted that it is at 49 percent “gender balance for managers and above.” The White House Pledge also includes a commitment to reviewing hiring and promotion processes and procedures to reduce unconscious bias and structural barriers, and embedding equal pay efforts into broader equity initiatives.

Sephora Opens 400th Store On Chicago's Magnificent Mile

Sephora opened a new store, the beauty retailer's 400th location, on Chicago's Magnificent Mile. According to Sephora Americas president and CEO Calvin McDonald, the company launched its Beauty TIP Workshop retail concept as part of its efforts to “reset, rethink,” its business. McDonald said the concept's “teaching beauty” element gives the retailer a competitive advantage over its rivals. Sephora's optimism when it comes to having physical stores comes from its strategy of using brick-and-mortar stores to “provide a service, a mini-makeover,” and because they are designed to teach beauty, McDonald said.

Viable High-Tech Solutions To Grocery Store Food Waste Disposal Do Exist

Disposal of grocery store produce that is damaged, ugly, or otherwise surplus because of faulty buying, but cannot be donated, is a major economic and environmental problem. Produce decaying in landfills, for example – 35 percent of all landfill waste – is a major source of methane gas. A variety of emerging technologies can help solve the problem. But perhaps the best is so-called “Big Data.” A supermarket of any size that has access to real-time information and analytics tracking processes related to food disposal can better manage the amount and timing of what they order. This would ensure that most of the food brought into stores is destined for consumer refrigerators, not landfills. Meanwhile, unsold items are minimized and disposed of safely.

Louis Vuitton Announces Les Parfums Fragrance Collection

Louis Vuitton said it plans to launch the Les Parfums collection of fragrances on September 1, 2016. Marking the company's first perfume development and launch in 70 years, the collection will include seven fragrances. These are Rose Des Vents, Turbulences, Dans La Peau, Apogee, Contre Moi, Matiere Noire, and Mille Feux. Perfumer Cavallier Belletrud use the CO2 extraction process to produce the floral notes used in the fragrances. Coming in bottles designed by Marc Newson, each fragrance costs $240 for the 100ml and $350 for the 200ml.

Gillette Sees Drops In Profit And Net Sales In 4Q FY 2016

Estee Lauder Posts Strong Sales And Revenue Gains In 4Q And FY 2016

Estee Lauder Companies, Inc., reported net sales increased 5 percent to $2.65 billion in the fourth quarter of fiscal year, which ended June 30, 2016, compared with $2.52 billion in the same quarter of the previous year. Net earnings for the quarter were $93.5 million, compared with $153 million from the previous year. Net sales for the whole year were $11.26 billion, an increase of 4 percent from the $10.78 billion in the previous year. According to the company, net earnings for the year rose 2 percent to $1.11 billion, compared with $1.09 billion in FY 2015.

L'Oreal USA Joins U.S. EPA's Green Power Partnership

L’Oreal USA said it has been added to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partnership, which acknowledges the company as one of the leading green power users in the country. Most of its green power comes from on-site solar power installations and those supplied by utility firms. Coty Reports Slight Net Revenue Decline In FY 2016

Coty Inc. reported net revenue declined 1 percent to $4.349 billion in fiscal year 2016, with operating income dropping 36 percent to $254.2 million from the previous year. Adjusted operating income increased 3 percent to $622.9 million, compared with the previous year. Reported net income declined 33 percent to $156.9 million, while adjusted net income rose 19 percent to $485.2 million. For the fourth quarter of FY 2016, net revenue rose 6 percent to $1.075 billion as reported, and decreased 1 percent like-for-like. Reported operating loss improved from $23.4 million in the previous year to $2.9 million in FY 2016. Adjusted operating income rose 19 percent to $94.2 million, compared with $79.2 million in the previous year.

Cos Bar Plans To Open 35 New Beauty Stores

Private equity firm Tengram Capital Partners acquired a majority stake in the company in December 2015, paving the way for the proposed expansion. Spending Trends Make Some Retail Sectors Skittish

Retail sales in the U.S. were sluggish in July, especially among clothing and electronic goods vendors, where shopping is shifting from brick-and-mortar stores to the Internet. It’s not because American consumers aren’t spending. After all, unemployment is down, income is up, and energy prices remain low. U.S. households have increased spending every quarter since the end of 2009. But there has been a shift in where Americans spend, toward entertainment, travel and healthcare -- and online. The experts don’t seem alarmed. One economist said the news signals “a pause in a good pace of spending”, while a global forecaster expects a 2.6 percent gain in gross domestic product this quarter over a year earlier. Still some sectors have reason to be nervous: consumer spending is falling at sporting goods stores, food and beverage stores, restaurants and bars.

Henkel Posts Strong Profit Growth In 2Q 2016

Unilever Caribbean Posts Strong Profit, Revenue Gains In 1H 2016

Shiseido Reports Strong Sales Gains In 1H Of FY 2016

Shiseido reported consolidated net sales grew 5.5 percent in the first half of fiscal year ending December 31, 2016, compared with the same period of the previous year. Operating income jumped 32.1 percent year on year to ¥19.9 billion, driven by higher margins in line with the increase in net sales, better product mix, and the flow-on effects of cost-cutting efforts. Also, the company has declared an interim dividend of ¥10 per share. Sales in Japan increased 5.5 percent to ¥202.9 billion, compared with the same period in the previous year. In China, sales increased 15.5 percent during the period, compared with the first half of the previous year. In terms of Japanese yen, sales grew 3.1 percent year on year to ¥61.5 billion, while operating income improved by ¥5.2 billion to ¥2.4 billion.
